Sprinkler Pipe Ruptures at Union Station

No service interruptions were reported as a result of the burst pipe

A sprinkler pipe burst at Union Station on Thursday afternoon, sending water spilling all over one of the lounges at the downtown station.

According to an Amtrak spokesperson, a sprinkler pipe burst in the Assisted Boarding Lounge at Union Station just after 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon. Workers were able to shut the water off, and are currently cleaning up the water from floors and seating areas.

Service was not interrupted by the burst pipe, according to officials.

Pipe failures have been reported in numerous homes and even in transit hubs like O’Hare International Airport as cold weather grips the area.
